Jerry Britton's PRR Middle Division in HO Scale

IMG 1126

The Chief Engineer is pleased to report progress on the construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad Middle Division in HO scale. Work was hampered early on by illness that plagued the track crew for five weeks. A sprint to the finish of the quarter saw the completion of two out of three goals.

Milroy was made operational on the Milroy Secondary.

The secondary is now complete except for a bridge over the Kishacoquilas Creek at Lewistown (3902). This is in the area of where state route 322 crosses Electric Avenue. A custom 144' two-segment, skewed through girder bridge is under construction (see above). Our sub-contractor [Walthers] was late in delivery of materials, which prevented completion of this section by quarter's end.

Allensville, on the Pennsylvania Midland, was made also operational. This segment provides connection between Big Valley Yard (future construction) and connections to the south, including the Baltimore & Ohio, Western Maryland, and recently acquired Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain.

Looking forward, the aforementioned bridge at Lewistown is expected to be completed in the coming weeks. The remainder of second quarter will largely be dedicated to quality control. Third quarter we will be addressing a backlog of final grading alongside the rights-of-way [scenery base]. We are projecting connection of the Lewistown Secondary to the Main Line at Lewistown Junction by year's end.

An open house is planned for May, which will be announced soon. We hope you will take the time to visit and inspect the line.
