Between August and October 1951, Altoona Car Shops built nine FD1 depressed center flat cars with a capacity of 150 tons. The featured a 30'0" by 10'0" loading deck and were 72'10" long above strikers. They had a pair of 2F-F3 four-wheel trucks at each end. While the depressed center had a steel deck, the decks over the trucks were wood.
