DREW Staging YardThe DREW Staging Yard consists of 18 tracks, direct connected to the east to the ASH Staging Yard. The DREW Staging Yard feeds trains onto the visible layout via several routes, including the "main line" from Philadelphia and New York City; the Northern Central Branch from York, Baltimore and Washington via the Cumberland Valley Branch; and the Reading interchange from Rutherford Yard to the east of Harrisburg. Travelling west, the 18 tracks converge into four. They then pass through a full interlocking and feed five tracks into a helix for the trip up to the middle level. The interlocking also feeds both ends of a reverse loop for turning trains. The loop encircles the base of the helix. This area on the layout has been dubbed DREW after my son Andrew, since it does not resemble a specific prototype area but requires a label for operational purposes. |
