The Middle Division received four EMD F units yesterday. Though ordered only two years ago, I've been waiting for these spotting feature combinations for years! Thanks to Broadway Limited Imports, two vacancies in my motive power roster have now been filled.
First, a set of F3's -- numbers 9501A and 9501B. These represent the very first batch of F's received by the Pennsy, six A units and eight B units. As "Phase 2 Early" units, they feature the small streamlined number boards, full chicken wire sides, high fans, and trainphones. Subsequent orders featured low fans.
Second, a set of F7's -- numbers 9671A and 9671B. These represent the first batch of F7's received by the Pennsy, 10 A units and 10 B units. As "Phase 1-A Early" units, they also feature the small streamlined number boards and trainphones. Subsequent orders featured the angled number boards.
